Professional Loft & Attic Clearance Services
Attic and loft clearances are more complex than they appear. Years of accumulated items in a confined space with restricted access, potential insulation hazards, and the physical challenge of moving heavy items through a small opening — this is not a job for an amateur. John at JKRS has cleared hundreds of lofts and attics across Cheshire, Merseyside, South Lancashire, and Greater Manchester, working safely and efficiently without causing any damage to the property.
What John Removes From Attics and Lofts
Old furniture stored decades ago, boxes of clothing and household items, Christmas decorations, boarded flooring and timber, old water tanks and pipework, loose-fill and roll insulation, children's toys and equipment. John removes all of it, leaving the loft space clear and accessible.
When People Need Attic Clearances
The most common reason is a planned loft conversion — the space must be completely empty before structural work can begin. Property sales, inherited properties, elderly relatives moving into care, and homeowners wanting to reclaim the space all account for significant demand each year.
Asbestos in Lofts — What You Need to Know
Loose-fill asbestos insulation was used in lofts of homes built between approximately 1965 and 1975. If your home was built in this period, John will identify any suspected asbestos during his site visit. He cannot remove asbestos materials — no standard clearance contractor can legally do so — but he will advise on arranging a specialist licensed contractor before proceeding.
Safe Working in Confined Spaces
John works carefully to ensure no damage is caused to ceiling joists, plasterboard, or the loft hatch. Items are manoeuvred out methodically. Dust sheets protect the landing and hallway below. John leaves the access hatch and surrounding area as he found it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be present during the attic clearance?
No. Many customers give John access and return to a cleared loft. John will always flag anything that looks valuable or personally significant before removing it.
Can you remove old loft insulation?
John can remove standard mineral wool and loose-fill non-asbestos insulation. If asbestos insulation is identified, John will not remove it and will advise on arranging specialist removal first.
How long does an attic clearance take?
Most standard loft clearances take between two and four hours. A heavily packed loft with boarded flooring or large furniture will take longer. John gives an honest time estimate when quoting.
What happens to the items removed from the loft?
Usable items go to local charities. Clothing and textiles go to charity shops or textile recycling. Timber is separated for appropriate disposal. Only items with no reuse value go to a licensed waste disposal facility.
